Bouquet "Floral Symphony"

Joan Mitchell painted like this: several colours thrown onto the canvas with no hierarchy, and somehow nothing collides. La Grande Vallée, 1983. This bouquet runs on the same principle. Cream lisianthus, peach roses, rust-toned chrysanthemums, blue delphinium and oxypetalum, and two large blue hydrangeas — the size of an open palm, set at the centre rather than the edge. Not one note scaled up: six flowers, six behaviours, none of them taking over. Oxypetalum: small pale-blue stars tucked between the heavier stems, barely visible from a metre away, then suddenly everywhere up close. The rust chrysanthemum catches light differently through the day — darker in the morning, closer to incandescent by early evening. Hydrangea holds in water for well over a week without losing shape. Lisianthus keeps opening after delivery. Delphinium doesn't move a millimetre — it holds its line to the end, while everything around it shifts.
